With the close of the most recent season, the Catalyst Theater in Rapid City is now celebrating two years of alternative stage productions and community involvement. Now, they turn to thank the support they’ve seen.
Not so new anymore, the Catalyst now has two seasons under its belt at its downtown Rapid City location.
With a party this week, board of director president Joanna Lawler said this is a chance to say thank you.
“There are a lot of actors here, but a lot of folks that worked behind the scenes, front of house, the people that supported us all along the way," Lawler said. "This is our way of thanking them. Our audience too, of course, but our volunteers are the ones that really breathe life into this theater.”
Lawler said that extends to the community, which has supported their outside-the-box production model. A choice she describes as needed and intentional.
“We started Catalyst because we felt there was a need and an opening for story-driven theater here in Rapid City," Lawler said. "We have this intimate space here downtown that allows the audience to get up close and feel the story. We try to do shows that make you think, make you feel things, and make you talk about what you just saw with your friends after the show.”
The most recent Catalyst season included a comedy diving into the internal politics of a local book club, a musical rendition of the Lizzie Burdon legend, and a tale of women trying to save the President from his own mistakes.
